#129: Commitment to a Dry Eye Plan

Oct 12, 2021

I want to talk to you about a very important topic.  It's called "Falling Off the Wagon".  Surely, it's happened to all of us. We've all fallen off the wagon from doing something from time to time.

Whether we're talking about treating our dry eye, being on a diet, or even making our bed in the morning, we've all stopped doing something even though we know it is in our best interest to keep doing it.  Sometimes, we just want to eat the Oreos.  We know that we shouldn't, but we do it anyway.

The Down Fall:

Maybe you've been doing great with you dry eye treatment.  Your eyes feel so great  that you stopped doing it.  Maybe you stopped for a couple of days, and your eyes didn't feel bad.  Nothing really bad happened.  You start thinking to yourself:

  • Do I really need to do my lid scrubs twice a day?
  • Maybe I don't need to use my warm compresses as often.
  • Really, I feel fine.

So, you go on for a few more days or a few more weeks even.  Then, it all comes to a crashing halt.  Your symptoms return, and you feel worse than ever.  What happens then? What can you do? Well, I would like to give you a couple of suggestions.

No. 1) Recognize that you've fallen off the wagon.

No big deal. There's no shame here.  You just need to pick yourself back up again.  Get on back on the horse. Right?

No. 2) Don't blame yourself

There's nothing good that's going to happen if you beat yourself up.  Telling yourself that you should've known better. Or, you've done this before.  Or, why do you always do this?  All those things that we tend to say to ourselves.

These are things we would never, ever say to our best friend.  Be your own best friend here.  Pick yourself up.  Don't blame yourself, gather your wits about you, and keep on trucking.

No. 3) Recommit

Recommit to getting on back on the horse.  You know how to do your dry eye treatment.  Just commit that you're going to start again.  Right then and there, you can start.

You can start with your artificial tears right away.  And, that night after you remove your eye makeup. You can do your lid scrub followed by a warm compress.  Don't forget to take your dry eye supplement when you eat your next meal.  There.  You've just gotten back on track.  It can be simple and easy.

No. 4) Get Support

My last suggestion is that you reach out.  Reach out for help.  It is so much easier going through something hard when you know you have someone right there beside you.  We're here to support you.  You can join the our Dry Eye Community on Facebook.  I would love to see you in our Facebook group where we support one another.

CONCLUSION

If you have done your dry eye treatment in the past, and you've found that you've fallen off the wagon, never fear. It's just time to get on back onto the horse. Don't blame yourself.  It doesn't solve the problem.  Recommit to starting your treatment plan again.  And, get the support you need in our Facebook Group.  I can't wait to see you in there.
