3 Tips for Date-Night Worthy Eyes

Jan 31, 2020

Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  Whether you are a fan of this holiday or not, chances are that you are going to be going out in some capacity or another.

I'd like to show you a few tips on how to make your eyes look bold and beautiful.  The thing about your eyes is: THEY ARE THE WINDOW TO YOUR SOUL.

We all know this.  Big, bright eyes are a sign of beauty.

Unfortunately, in our society right now, the trend in beauty is to cover up your lids with lots of black eyeliner as close to the eye itself as possible and glue on long, long false lashes.  These two trends are detrimental to the overall health of your eyes in the long run.

For the past two weeks, we have talked about self-care routines to help you take the best care of your eyes.  I advocate for doing a routine twice daily just like you do for your teeth.  You can look back to the morning routine here and the evening routine here.

Since Valentine's day is just around the corner, let's talk about 3 ways to play up your eyes for date night.

NO. 1)  Rock those shimmery eyes

Let your eyes sparkle and look great doing it.  Now, ladies, I always hated it when my mother would say, "Act your age..."  Ugh, but there comes a time when it is not so cool to put glitter all over your eyelashes.

I'm hoping you are over the age of 12, so let's act our age and make our eyes sparkle without the use of glitter.

I love using the Beautycounter eye shadow palettes because I know this company is looking out for my eye health.  They ban 1500 ingredients that are not eliminated from other brands of makeup (...even the expensive kind you are buying from the department store).

To get the shadow to stick to your lids instead of allowing it to fall in your eyes, start with a primer.  My favorite is the Touchup Skin Concealer pen from Beautycounter.

Then, apply the eye shadow that best plays up your eye color.  I love the Starlight Eye Shadow Palette from Beautycounter.  It is the perfect blend of feminine sparkle.

NO. 2) Highlight with a Fine Line

Eyeliner is a great way to highlight those beautiful eyes of yours.  Underline them to bring up the drama.

I prefer using the pencil style of eyeliner because you can sharpen it before each use to eliminate any bacteria it may have picked up.  I love using the Color Define Brow pencil from Beautycounter.

Also, never put your eyeliner on the waterline.  This is the area of your eyelid between the lashes and your eye itself.  It is also the area that contains the meibomian glands.  These glands are delicate and super important in keeping your tears healthy.

If you have dry eyes, chances are your tears lack oils.  Placing your eyeliner on the waterline here covers up the openings of the oil glands.  This results in two problems.

First, you are probably getting makeup in your eyes which is floating around in your tears and irritating your eyes.  Second, the oils are not released from the glands when you blink.  So, the glands can become clogged over time and eventually atrophy.

NO.3) Great looking lashes - naturally

My final tip on how to have whiter, brighter eyes for date-night this Valentine's day is to coat your lashes with healthy, nourishing mascara.  My all-time favorite mascara is the volumizing mascara from Beautycounter.  If are after lust-worthy length then the Lengthening Mascara from Beautycounter is what you need.

Both of these mascaras coat your lashes evenly and do not flake off during the day.  The precision brush separates and defines each lash with a botanical mixture of oils and waxes.  These ingredients help the overall health of your lids and lashes by adding moisture instead of stripping it away.

False lashes will definitely give you more drama.  Definitely you will have good drama that evening while you flutter them over dinner.  But, also the glues used to apply the lashes my later give you a nightmare when they cause so much irritation to your eyes that they are red and swollen for days.

If you don't have an immediate reaction to the adhesives, they will also dry out your lashes over time.  This can make your natural lashes brittle and cause them to break easily.  Not to mention that there are bacteria that love to live in those lashes.  Yikes.

CONCLUSION

Well, there you have it.  You can look great on Valentine's Day without using irritating ingredients on your precious peepers.  Play up your eyes with these 3 show-stopping products.

Get that sultry look you are after by applying the ultimate evening look with the Starlight Eyeshadow Palette.

Next, define the eyes with the Color Define Brow Pencil.  This pencil can be sharpened with each use to give you the precision and definition you are looking for as well as, eliminating any bacteria on the applicator.

Finally, add lust-worthy length with the Lengthening Mascara from Beautycounter.  Separate and coat your lashes with nourishing ingredients, and skip the toxic glue from your local lash bar.

With these CLEAN beauty products in your arsenal, you are going to look fabulous no matter what day of the year it is.  You can add on my 2 favorite beauty secret weapons to your stockpile.  Lumify is an eye whitener to get your eyes sparkling white.  You can use it as a finishing touch to your eyes to make sure they stay white for 8 hours with just one drop.  And finally, my favorite eye makeup remover to use at the end of the evening.  We love Eyes makeup remover oil to get your eyes to stay looking great after date night.
