Top 5 Books to Kickstart Your New Year's Resolutions

Jan 05, 2021

Happy New Year!

I love making new year's resolutions, and I do them every year.  For me, it is all about setting the intention of what I would like to work towards.  I like to take the time at the beginning of the year to think about all the steps to get me from where I am to where I would like to be.  I write them down and put them on my calendar so that it is not only an idea of how to get there but the exact path I need to follow.

Book #1

If you have been following me for a while, you know that every year I like to reread my favorite book by Jack Canfield, The Success Principles.  Reading this great book is one way I like to start off my new year.

The Success Principles book gives lots of ways that you can reach your goals.  It describes the 67 timeless principles and practices used by the world's most successful people.  Rereading it reminds me of different ideas and habits I can implement to transform my life for the year.

Book #2

The next book that I love and will certainly read again in 2021 is Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis.

This is a book I have read a couple of times already.  I love the way she sets up times and regimens to reach her goals.  I have even modified a  couple of her practices in this book to fit into the way I talk about dry eyes.

Rachel Hollis talks about doing the 5 to Thrive each day.  And, if you have downloaded my daily dry eye treatment regimen, then you know about the 4 Simple Steps that I suggest every day as part of your dry eye treatment regimen.  I call them, "4 and Out the Door"  and "6 for the Fix".

The author sets a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams.  Then, she goes on to identify the excuses to let go of, the behaviors to adopt, and the skills to acquire on the path to growth, confidence, and believing in yourself.  I love this book so much.  I hope you enjoy it too.

Book #3

The third book I recommend is a new one that came out in 2020.   This one is by Jennifer Allwood and is called Fear Is Not The Boss Of You.  I want to preface this book ahead of time that it does have a very Christian message.  If you don't like reading about God and his power in your life, then you aren't likely to enjoy this book.

The author discusses how to identify where you are stuck, determine what's holding you back, and gives you strategies on how to get out of your own way.  Fear is the biggest factor that keeps many of us from reaching our goals whether they involve our jobs, hobbies, health, or home.  We often get scared and drop the goal.

When I counsel my own patients, I find that they experience a lot of fear around suffering from dry eyes.  My patients will tell me all the time that they fear they're losing their eyesight.  They fear that there's no hope for them.   Many of them have tried so many different treatments that just haven't worked. They're ready to give up hope.

If you are in this boat, I encourage you to read this book.  Then, schedule an appointment to see me (318-222-5555). Reach out to me here on the blog with your questions, or send me an email at [email protected].  I have answers for your dry eyes.  Please don't give up hope.

Book #4

The last thing I'd like to share about how I reach my goals is that I use a planner. I like the Full Focus Planner by Michael Hyatt.  It really gives you both space and the organization to spell everything out in here.

You can go month by month and then day by day and write down all of the things that you are going to do each day to make your goals happen.  I love this Full Focus Planner because I can break my goals down into manageable tasks that I can do every day to keep me on track towards that bigger goal for the month, quarter, or year.

Book #5

Finally, along those lines of the steps that you need to take to reach your goals. If one of your goals in 2021 is to get relief from your dry eyes, then I want you to know that you're in luck.  I have done the work for you.

I have laid out the exact path that you need to take to tackle your dry eyes in my book Alleviate Dry Eye.  The book takes you through a process of eight weeks where you can go through each step chapter by chapter.  Not only will you find out how to treat your dry eye, but there is also a wonderful workbook you can download as well.  The workbook helps you keep track of the steps you need to take, your progress and even gives journal prompts where you can write about what you're thinking or feeling that week.

Use the workbook to understand the factors that are keeping you from making progress and how to move forward.  It contains charts for you to check off when you complete the tasks that I recommend each day.  It goes through the entire eight weeks to get you from red and irritated eyes to bright and healthy eyes that will last you a lifetime.

I can't wait to see what we can all do in 2021!
