Focusing on these three essential habits are of the utmost importance in maintaining healthy eyes. Let's cultivate good habits around eye hygiene this month, it's important to pay special attention to the well-being of our eyes. Afterall, they are the only pair we'll ever have. 

Tip 1: Remove Your Contact Lenses 

Remove your contact lenses before any of the three "S"s. Never leave your contact lenses in your eyes while:

  1. Showering
  2. Swimming
  3. Sleeping

Removing your lenses prior to these three S's ensures you keep your eyes in top shape. Each of these activities increases your risks of sight threatening eye infections. Always removing contacts before any of these situations will reduce your risk of complications and maintain healthy habits.

Most people say that vision is their most valued sense. They would protect it over all of their other senses. Yet, we do very little in our daily lives to ensure our eyes are working properly. We expect our vision to be sharp to perform for us, but we don't think about steps we should take to support our eyes.

Every day, we need to support our bodies. We need to get enough sleep, eat healthy foods and bring nutrition to our cells, and we need to exercise. We also take steps to care for other parts of our bodies like out skin, hair, and teeth.

Let's talk about treating your dry eyes when you hate taking eye drops. I have lots of patients in my office that just don't like taking drops. Or, perhaps it's hard for them to use drops because they have arthritis and can't squeeze the bottles, or their handshake too much.  It turns out there are several alternatives to your dry eye treatment that don't require putting drops in your eyes. 

 

If you have dry eyes, I always advocate taking 4-simple steps every day to treat your dry eyes. These steps are: hydrate, harmonize, heat, and heal.
