What does Clean Makeup Mean?

Feb 09, 2021

Most of my patients ask me lots of questions about how to make their eyes look younger.  How can we turn back the clocks and make ourselves look years younger?  Well, if I knew how to do that, I would be lounging on a private island by now.  I don't have a magic wand to wave to erase the effects all those years have had on our bodies.

But, I do know that using Clean Makeup will help decrease the signs of aging around your eyes.  Now I've caught your attention.  It's true, using the average makeup found at the drug store or at the department store counter is filled with toxic ingredients that will increase inflammation of your tissues and increase the signs of aging.

What is CLEAN Makeup?

Clean makeup is defined as beauty products that are made without ingredients shown to harm human hea...

3 Mascara Myths Debunked

Jun 20, 2020

Many of my patients struggle with wearing I make up all day. They put on make up in the morning,  but it starts to run down their faces by afternoon. The problem is redness, irritation, and watering.  It's the ingredients in the eye makeup: mascara, eye shadow, and eyeliner that are irritating to the eyes.

Did you know that women use an average of nine personal care products every day?  And, the beauty industry in the United States is highly unregulated. There has not been a new law past in the United States since 1938. As of today, there are only 11 ingredients banned from beauty products made in the United States. Whereas in Europe, there are over 1100 ingredients banned from their ingredient lists.

When I discuss changing makeup products with my patients, I am often met with resist...

3 Tips for Date-Night Worthy Eyes

Jan 31, 2020

Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  Whether you are a fan of this holiday or not, chances are that you are going to be going out in some capacity or another.

I'd like to show you a few tips on how to make your eyes look bold and beautiful.  The thing about your eyes is: THEY ARE THE WINDOW TO YOUR SOUL.

We all know this.  Big, bright eyes are a sign of beauty.

Unfortunately, in our society right now, the trend in beauty is to cover up your lids with lots of black eyeliner as close to the eye itself as possible and glue on long, long false lashes.  These two trends are detrimental to the overall health of your eyes in the long run.

For the past two weeks, we have talked about self-care routines to help you take the best care of your eyes.  I advocate for doing a routine tw...

The 3 Worst Things you do with your Mascara

Sep 04, 2019

As an eye doctor, I get up close and personal with women's eye makeup every day.  I routinely use a microscope to examine the eye.  This can make the eyelashes about 20 times bigger than the way you see them in a regular mirror.

The horrors I see on people's eyelids are incredible.  Makeup caked up into the lashes and in the corner of the eye is only the tip of the iceberg.  That built-up gunk leads to inflammation, irritation, and infection over time.

Here are the three biggest beauty blunders I see women committing with their mascara:

1. Sleeping with it

Not removing your eye makeup at the end of the day is one of the worst things you can do for your sensitive eyes.  After all, you wouldn't go to bed without brushing your teeth, right?  The same risk of cavities applies to the ...
