#232: 3 Tips to Preserve your Vision in a Screen-Filled World

Apr 18, 2025

In today's fast-paced digital world, most full-time professionals might not realize that their eyes are under constant assault. With screens becoming an integral part of both work and leisure, our eyes rarely catch a break, leading to a surge in symptoms associated with digital eye strain.

If you've experienced blurry or fluctuating vision, dry and irritated eyes, or constant squinting, you might have attributed these issues to aging or stress. However, the truth is that these symptoms are often avoidable if you know the right steps to take. I've developed the 3P Framework: Prepare, Perform, and Preserve. If you haven't seen the TEDx video that explains it, watch it here.

**Prepare**

Start by creating an environment that minimizes eye strain. This includes adjusting the lighting in your...

#218: Myths about Digital Eye Strain

Oct 09, 2024

Today, I want to bust a myth—the myth that digital eye strain doesn’t cause damage to your eyes. There are many patients and even some practitioners who talk about digital eye strain like it's no big deal. Let’s bust it...

These symptoms include stinging, light sensitivity, aching behind the eyes, tiredness, heavy lids, soreness, dryness, burning, and even blurred vision. All these symptoms together make up what we call digital eye strain. Here's a great review of digital eye strain in...

#150: Help! My Eyes are so Dry, I Can’t Finish My Work

Mar 22, 2022

A lot of patients come to my office because their dry eyes are affecting their ability to work.  Some days your eyes may be bothering you so much that you just can't continue to work for another minute. What are you going to do now?

I don't know if you know this, but I spend a lot of time on the computer myself.  I wrote a book a few years ago.  I write articles for Optometric journals and prepare lectures to present to colleagues.  I also have a blog and a website. All of these things can cause me to be on the computer into the wee hours. Often my eyes own eyes are tired, and I feel like I just can't keep going.

I've found some things that really help.  I have done a number of blogs to help you adjust your workstation and help you keep working.  And, I've prepared a Guide to help you...

#124: Upneeq, The Lift You've Been Looking for

Sep 07, 2021

Have your eyes been feeling a little down lately?  Many of my patients are very concerned with the not only the health of their eyes, but their appearance as well.  As the windows to your soul, you want them to present you in a good light.  I understand, you want your eyes to be open and bright.  You want them to enhance your appearance and not take away from it.

There's a new eye drop that can make your eyes look more beautiful and alive.  Upneeq is the only FDA approved drop that is used to treat low lying lids by lifting the lid to open the eyes.  Unlike most of the information on my blog, this drop doesn't necessarily have anything to do with dry eyes.  But, I thought you would be interested in a drop that made your eyes look beautiful, right?

What does it ...

Got Tired Eyes? 3 Common Reasons for Tired Eyes

Mar 02, 2021

One of the most common complaints I get from my patients that I either see in the office or online in a telehealth visit is, "Why are my eyes so tired?"  And then, the patient usually elaborates with something like this, "I don't know what they're doing, they're just tired. I wake up, and they're tired. I drink my coffee, and they're tired. Why am I so tired all the time?"  Today, I will review three reasons why your eyes are tired.

#1) Your Eyes are Dry

Most Americans are using digital devices constantly.  Whether it's computers, phones, tablets, or even watches.  You are using these electronics for up to eight hours a day. Sometimes you may even use two at a time. You're on the computer and you're on your cellphone all at the same time.  You can't escape these digital devices. The de...
